Birthday Backdrop From Dollar Store Tablecloths
I've always been in absolute awe of how people create these amazing balloon arches with backdrops! Such a stunning statement for a photo opportunity, gift or food table. But for something that we will likely toss after the party I didn't want to spend a ton of money.
For my daughter's birthday I was able to create a backdrop to go behind her balloon arch using $3 worth of Dollar Store table cloths.
I used 3 tablecloths in the largest available rectangular size and chose colors that coordinated with the party theme.
Start by lying the tablecloths directly on top of each other on a flat surface.
I simply laid mine out on the floor to allow myself plenty of working space.
I used a piece of duct tape to tape it to the floor. This allowed me to hold it in place while I worked on the project.
Next I used scissors to cut the tablecloths into long strips all the way down the length. I did not worry about being perfectly straight, and just tried to make the strips close to even in width.
Be sure not to cut all the way through. You'll want to leave a few inches at the top.
Once all of your strips are cut, take each layered section and braid the the three colors into braids about 6 inches or so down. Then you'll want to tie a simple knot at the end of your braid.
Once your braids are done you're ready to hang the backdrop.
I was attaching this one to a concrete all so I simply used the overhang of the original duct tape to stick it to the wall. The top of my banner was hidden by the balloon arch so you could not see the tape.
If you aren't hiding under a balloon arch you could loop this around a PVC pipe or wooden arch for a freestanding option or use command hooks poked through the plastic.
Fluff out the pieces to create a fuller look.
