Boho Ghosts

Ghost are my second favorite Halloween decoration, next to Skeletons. I knew I wanted to make some that would be more boho esque in style. What's more boho than macramé cording?! And even better...I already had some in my craft supplies already. The only other thing you need to make these is something strong to glue the cording to. I used a flat hard painting canvas. Not recommended, as it was a pain to cut with the scissors. Maybe there's a better way to cut them?

After I cut mine into somewhat of a semi circle (I ended up cutting the sharper areas a bit more to make the canvas more rounded.) I began gluing on my cord strips. Luckily, mine where already cut into strips for another project that I never got around to doing. I started in the middle by folding a cord in half and hot gluing it to the canvas. Then it was simply gluing and adding the cord up the entire canvas.

I ended up with this. I trimmed all my longer ends to be level with the middle section. Then it was time to start unraveling the cord. I did this by untwisting the middle section of the cord and pulling the 3 strands apart all the way down the length of the cord. This was the longest part of the project. I made sure to keep the parts of the cord that were glued down from coming unraveled. This meant occasionally going in with a bit more hot glue underneath to make sure the cord was stuck down really well to the canvas.

Sometimes I get impatient with projects and just want to see a glimpse of what they will look like finished. I only unraveled part of the cords then grabbed my husbands beard comb, shhh...don't tell him, and brushed all the unraveled ends out. Be warned this makes for some major fuzzies in the air. A mask and some safety glasses might be smart when doing this. I got several fuzzies in my eyes and nose.

Once you have all the loose cords brushed out be sure to even the bottom out again with the scissors. Next was time to add a face for our little ghosts. You could use buttons, paper, felt, fabric, black cording, the options are endless.

I chose to use polymer clay. Since I had it on hand. After baking my pieces I used more hot glue to attach them. Then I used some command strips to hang them on the wall.

I love how cute and neutral they are!
