Say Goodbye to Bulky Detergent Bottles With DIY Frozen Laundry Pods

My laundry room is more of a laundry cupboard, squeezed into the kitchen and not close to the pantry. It’s got just enough space for the washer and dryer, and not much else.
Keeping large bottles of detergent and fabric softener around always felt like a hassle, especially since I had to keep running back and forth between the pantry and laundry cupboard. But then I had an idea! What if I could create a more efficient system where everything I needed was right next to the washer?
That’s when I came up with the concept of frozen laundry pods! These little pods are perfectly sized for a load of laundry, and since my freezer is right near the washer, I no longer have to deal with hauling bottles back and forth. I simply grab a pod, toss it in the wash, and I’m good to go!
Here’s how you can make your own DIY laundry pods too.

1. Prepare Your Ice Cube Tray
Start by grabbing your ice cube tray—the standard 12-cube plastic trays are perfect for this project.
These will give you just the right amount for one load of laundry. You can use larger trays, but this size is ideal for a single load and won’t take up too much room in your freezer.
2. Add Scent Boosters
Next, shake some scent boosters (like Unstoppables) at the bottom of each ice cube slot.
These will give your laundry a fresh, long-lasting scent. Don’t go overboard—just a little sprinkle will do. You can always adjust based on your scent preference.
3. Pour in the Laundry Detergent
Now, pour in the liquid laundry detergent. I use a concentrated detergent since a little goes a long way and it helps to keep the pods from getting too messy.
Fill each cube compartment until it’s about ¾ full, leaving a little space at the top.
4. Freeze and Store
If your tray has no lid, wrap it in plastic or stick it in a ziplock bag.
Pop your tray into the freezer and let it freeze for several hours or overnight.
Once frozen, carefully pop the frozen laundry pods out of the tray and store them in a ziplock bag or airtight container to keep them fresh.
