How to Make This Cute as Can Be Valentine’s Candy Dish

Valentine’s Day is a fun holiday for making some whimsical decorations to decorate your home or office. This crafty flower pot turned gumball machine is just the kind of project for Valentine’s Day. I love to make these for friends who work in an office, as it is a perfect desktop accessory to bring a smile to any coworker’s face!
What you need:
You don’t need to invest much to make this project! Some terra cotta flower pots, acrylic paint and glass bowl and a wooden ball are all you will need!
- 4 1/2 inch flower pot
- 6 1/4 inch saucer
- 6 inch round glass bowl
- 2 inch wooden ball
- acrylic paint in your choice of colors
- sponge paint brushes
- Gorilla Clear Grip Contact Adhesive
Time to paint:
Paint your flower pot and saucer with acrylic paint. It took me three coats of paint to get the bright look I wanted.
Make sure you paint both sides of your saucer, top and bottom. You don’t need to paint the inside of your pot.
To paint the wooden ball without getting paint all over your fingers, one technique is to bend a couple of pipe cleaners over and stick them in the hole on the bottom of the wooden ball. A dowel or straw can work just as well.
Use the pipe cleaners to hold onto while you paint the ball. I chose a contrasting color for mine.
While waiting for one coat to dry, I just stuck the pipe cleaners into a chunk of styrofoam.
Time to assemble:
Using the Gorilla Clear Grip, attach the wooden ball to the bottom of the saucer.
Put a bead of the Clear Grip around the raised edge on the bottom of your flower pot.
Make sure you have the glass bowl centered, and press it down firmly on the bottom of the flower pot.
I like to let my pieces sit for 24 hours to make sure they are secure.
Fill with candy and you have an adorable Valentine’s candy dish to display and offer up some sweet treats from!
