I painted flagstones on my concrete sidewalk. Adds so much to the look of the house.
I power sprayed the sidewalk a week ago to remove the stains and moss that would come up. Then yesterday I sat on the ground and scooted back each time I completed a couple of rows on the 70 foot long sidewalk. I was painting over the shapes I had done 10 years ago.
As you can see, some of the sidewalk remains in sun and the concrete stays white. The sidewalk that is shaded is stained with moss.
The stained shapes took the new paint just as well as the unstained. There was a short summer shower that made me stop working. When it stopped I used the leaf blower to clear the water puddles off the newly painted surfaces. It took an hour for the pavement to dry so I could continue painting.
I shot this photo just before I resumed painting after the little rain storm. It took me another couple of hours and the paint was fully dried in 8 hours. I worked under the moveable blue canopy when the tree no longer gave me shade.
Product I used both times. Be sure to leave a 1/2 inch space between shapes as the oil based paint does spread.
I love the clean new look of the sidewalk and know that it will last another 10 years or more.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
How and why is sand used on the wet paint?
can it be done in garage?
You had the flagstone look & recovered it with fresh stain. How about seeing a tutorial beginning with blank simply concrete sidewalk & staining the shapes using a flagstone template? Is that possible? And what do u suggest would make a good template?
