My opinion, no longer than your waist so if u drop food the cloth should catch it before it hits the Floo. U don't want it to long it will become a eye sore

Mine usually hang between 5 to 7" off the edge. You don't want it to be in anyone's lap when they sit down.
I would go no further than. 4-6 inches
Should be about 6 inches.
